Dr. Daniela Albuquerque is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she graduated from the University of Brazil (UFRJ) with a summa cum laude Ophthalmology degree. She has developed a special interest in contact lenses, glaucoma, and oculoplastic surgery, and was actively involved in research. She has published several papers and participated in studies, including a recent one presented at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons Congress in Barcelona. Dr. Albuquerque was integral in the first radiofrequency study for dry eye patients, and her feedback was utilized in the development of the world’s first ocular handpiece for RF therapy.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Dr. Albuquerque cofounded a non-profit organization with her husband Dr. Henry Reis, to provide ophthalmologic exams to an underprivileged community in Rio de Janeiro and offer free consultations and surgeries in their private practice during special campaigns. She still actively assists NGOs such as the Foundation Fighting Blindness and the Third World EyeCare Society, organizing events, fundraising and donating eyewear and medical equipment.
Dr. Albuquerque is the Chief Operating Officer of Integra Eyecare and acts as Clinic Director of both Integra Vancouver and Burnaby. She is proud of developing programs to enhance our patients’ experience by bringing a medical approach to Integra Eyecare Centre. She is not a licensed optometrist in BC and does not see patients for optometric care. Dr. Albuquerque has been working remotely since the end of 2019 and her operational responsibilities have been transferred to Integra’s general manager, Paula Pfeifer.
In her spare time, she enjoys dancing, traveling and spending time with her family. She also loves animals, specially her two cats, Alvin and Mya. Daniela is fluent is Portuguese and English, and is currently learning Spanish as well.
