Dr. Henry Reis is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he graduated from the University of Brazil (UFRJ) with a summa cum laude Ophthalmology degree. During his extensive training, he developed a special interest in cornea, cataract, glaucoma and laser surgery, and was actively involved in research, having published several papers and participated in studies such as the Lucentis International Trial.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Reis cofounded a non-profit organization with his wife Dr. Daniela Albuquerque, to provide ophthalmologic exams to an underprivileged community in Rio de Janeiro and offer free consultations and surgeries in their private practice during special campaigns.
Dr. Reis is currently the Vice-President of the BC Doctors of Optometry; the Chair of the BCDO Telehealth Committee; member of the Eyerecommend Training Committee; professional consultant for Alcon, Allergan and Bausch+Lomb; member of the Medical Advisory Board for I-Med Pharma; faculty of SAPIO and Optomize and active member of several optometric and ophthalmic associations, such as the American Academy of Optometry, the Canadian Association of Ophthalmology, the International Society of Eye Research and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
Dr. Reis has published international studies on Dry Eye Disease and runs a very progressive Dry Eye Clinic at Focus Eyecare Centre.
In his spare time, in addition to spending time with his wife Daniela and their two cats, Dr Reis enjoys hockey, tennis, cycling, running, scuba diving and traveling. Dr. Reis is fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish, and enjoys learning new words and phrases in several different languages.
