Dr. Henry Reis is a physician, author, editor and educator from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; where he graduated from the University of Brazil (UFRJ), with a summa cum laude Ophthalmology degree. He is an active member of several medical associations, such as the Canadian Association of Ophthalmology, the International Society of Eye Research and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He practices full-scope optometry in British Columbia since successfully completing the international optometric bridging program in 2012.

During his extensive training in ophthalmology, he developed a special interest in cornea, cataract and glaucoma, and was actively involved in research, having published international papers on anterior segment disease and participated in studies such as the Lucentis International Trial for wet AMD.

Dr. Reis has delivered presentations in Europe, North and South America, and his current research topics include tear osmolarity testing, IRPL and RF applications in dry eye disease, ocular genetics in AMD and artificial intelligence for ocular surface disease diagnosis and  management. He is the Chair of the Cornea Section at the International Society of Eye Research Meeting in Australia and Faculty of the Canadian Dry Eye Summit.

Dr. Reis has developed a dry eye management algorithm in an effort to standardize and elevate the way dry eye disease is managed worldwide. He was the first practitioner in North America to use the E>Eye IRPL system in 2017 and also participated in its official launch in Brazil. Dr. Reis was also the first doctor to utilize a bipolar radiofrequency system for dry eye therapy in North America, participating in the study that allowed InModeMD to develop the world’s first RF ocular handpiece, the i-Forma. He introduced the Optimas platform in the eyecare market in 2018 and is the only practitioner to offer Lumecca, Forma and Morpheus8 treatments in Western Canada.

He is the Associate Editor of the CRO Journal and Chief Medical Advisor for I-MED Pharma, and also a member of the BCDO Areas of Practice Interest Committee and the EyeRecommend Member Engagement Committee. He has practiced as a consulting eyecare professional for Alcon, Bausch+Lomb, Optos and Zeiss. Dr. Reis currently sits on the advisory board of Allergan and Shire.

Dr. Reis has been practicing full scope optometry in Canada since 2013 and has served the BCDO Board of Directors and was the Provincial Association Vice-President and chair of the Provincial Telehealth Committee until February of 2017.

In addition to his involvement in ophthalmic education and practicing in a full-scope surgical corneal centre in Brazil, Dr. Reis is the CEO and co-founder of AI4Eyes, a Canadian-based medical device company that is building the world’s first using artificial intelligence (AI) enhanced system for anterior segment disease diagnosis and management.

Dr. Reis is the sole owner of the Integra Eye Care Network, which included the award-winning, progressive, full-scope clinic in Burnaby, B.C founded in 2006 as well as the new, 3,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art clinic in Vancouver, founded in 2022. Both clinics aim at combining innovative technology, outstanding patient care and doctor expertise. The clinical protocols, processes and operations developed at Integra Eyecare Centre Burnaby have served as the foundation for the Integra Eyecare brand expansion, with the goal of revolutionizing the delivery of eye care in British Columbia.

Dr. Henry Reis is the winner of the 2020 Top Canadian Immigrant Award and the 2018 JnJ Top 40 under 40. He enjoys spending time with his wife Daniela, his son Benjamin and his two cats. In his spare time, Dr. Reis enjoys soccer, tennis, traveling and learning new languages. Dr. Reis is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish and English.
