Dr. Maryam Askarpoor grew up in Maple Ridge, BC and then later moved to Vancouver to complete her Bachelor in Science degree at UBC in 2017. She earned her Doctor of Optometry title at the University of Waterloo in Ontario where she graduated with distinction in 2021.Dr. Askarpoor completed her primary care rotation in Calgary, AB and her ocular disease rotation in Smithers, BC where she strengthened her dry eye and glaucoma management skills. She is also skilled at managing a variety of emergency cases, including foreign body removal. Dr. Askarpoor has an extended interest in ocular disease, speciality contact lenses and myopia control.

She has a true passion for providing care to those who do not have access to it. During her time in optometry school, Dr. Askarpoor was the president of sVOSH and worked with various organizations to plan and run successful and sustainable trips to less developed countries to provide free eye care. She took a team of Optometrists and students to the Philippines in 2019 and provided free eye care to over 1,000 patients. She was also one of the founders of NOSA Waterloo, with the purpose to advance the ocular health of minority populations. Dr. Askarpoor aims to continue these projects for the rest of her career. When she is not in the office, you can find Dr. Askarpoor at the airport on her way to another beautiful country to discover or she is out exploring our very own mountains and waterfalls. She also spends much of her time training in various types of Martial Arts like taekwondo and krav maga.

Dr. Askarpoor can do your eye exams in English and Farsi. She is currently learning how to complete eye exams in Spanish as well!
